The Mojo Life
Working at Mojo is work, but it’s more than just a job in a café: it’s an opportunity to meet new friends and create new skills. There are opportunities to move to different cafés to experience different environments and customers and lots of social occasions as well.
Not just a job, we play as hard as we work! Come and work with us!explore Jobs
What’s it really like working at Mojo?
Grow with us, work your way up
Once your initial training is complete – there are still many opportunities to develop your skills from moving around different stores and working with different teams, to upskilling in your favourite aspects of hospitality with our development programmes. We offer specialist training in our kitchen for food preparation, extensive coffee training through our Mojo Coffee Captains programme, and management training for head office support. Most of our head office team have come from café roles! Set your sights on where you want to go and we’ll help you get there!
Learn the Mojo way; set your hospitality career up for life!
We teach our people everything we know. From your first day, you’ll start with 12 weeks of intensive training. This training includes plenty of time on the shop floor so you can put everything you learn into practice as well as our world class coffee training.
We love our planet
We are an ethical company – thoughtful about our responsibilities to our staff, customers, suppliers and the environment. We support many little steps to help the environment and work with partners to deliver better outcomes for the planet. You can read about our sustainability work here, but to give you a flavour we:
- Power most of our cafes from a certified CarboNZero power company.
- Loads of cup options; Again Again cup lending, keep cups, and fill your own mug
- Only use commercially compostable materials for all our packaging
Our culture is as important as our coffee
We work really hard on our team culture, with fun stuff mixed in with the work stuff. We have regular internal coffee competitions that we call throw downs. Then there’s things like our famous Mojo Christmas Party and regular coffee cupping sessions.
Why join us?
It’s just good here. We have a great time at work, we make friends with our colleagues, and the coffee is so good. Here’s some other reasons why you should apply right now.
Mojo cares about your wellbeing
It’ll be no surprise that while we wrap you in support with training, we also look after your wellbeing with our Mojo Wellbeing perks.
To start off, all of our Mojo team get free coffee and 50% off food across at any Mojo café.
Everybody who works at Mojo is given access to an Employee Assistance Programme run by Vitae. That means by joining Mojo, you get access to one on one counselling sessions to help with whatever rough patch you might be hitting. Stress, grief, relationship issues. Life can be really tough and we get it. That’s why we have Vitae on hand to help out with what you might need at the time.
Getting health insurance might not have crossed your mind, but it is useful and if it’s right for you to get some personal cover, we get special rates from Southern Cross Health Insurance for you to take advantage of.
We want you to be happy at work and so we put a particular focus on your personal wellbeing as well. We run fitness and mindfulness, and sessions for mental health awareness week, and if you’re keen on exercise and keeping fit, we have ongoing membership benefits at a number of gyms and yoga studios if that’s what you’re into.
Saving for your retirement is important and so for our KiwiSaver contributions, our preferred scheme is CareSaver which is an ethical KiwiSaver fund meaning it doesn’t invest in things like fossil fuels, gambling or tobacco companies. Instead it invests your money in sustainable companies and not-for-profit organisations. They also donate 10% of their fees to one of 15 charities that you choose.
Great social life
Our Christmas party is next level epic! We also have regular coffee cupping sessions, latte art competitions, and barista competitions that we call call “throw downs”. And when we celebrate, we know how to party.
We have fun at work; our people are like family. And with new store openings here in New Zealand and expansion of the company in the US, there’s always something exciting going on.
