Step into the world of specialty coffee with this hands-on, fast-paced two-day Barista course, designed for senior secondary students who want real industry skills using specialty grade industry products and equipment.
This programme is built around Unit Standard 17288 – Prepare and present espresso beverages (Level 3, 5 credits), allowing students to gain NZQA-recognised achievement while learning practical, real-world barista skills.
Whether you're curious about working in a café, building employability skills, or just want to understand what goes into a perfect coffee, this course takes you through the full journey, from bean to cup.
In this course, you will learn,
- Understanding coffee beans, grind size, and extraction basics
- How espresso machines work in a commercial setting
- The importance of consistency, timing, and technique
- Pulling and assessing quality espresso shots
- How to steam milk to the correct temperature and texture
- Introduction to simple pouring techniques
- Understanding how milk affects flavour and presentation,
- Common espresso-based drinks (latte, flat white, cappuccino, etc.)
- Cleaning and maintaining espresso machines and equipment.
Mojo Unit Standard Certificate on completion.
This course only runs through school holidays.
