Mojo Supplier Stories: Otis Oat M!lk
We’re proud to work with many local suppliers across the country who share the same philosophy and sustainability values as us here at Mojo Coffee. After looking at how they could create oat milk locally, using this delicious, sustainable superfood, the Otis Oat M!ilk team got in touch with the NZ Oat Growers Group and well, kicked things off. They have now created New Zealand's first homegrown oat milk using southern-grown oats, harvested by Kiwi farmers. Not only are oats a sustainable crop, they are rich in fibre – Otis oat milk includes the beta glucans too, which can be beneficial to...
Coffee in Good Spirits Throwdown 2021
Thursday 18th March sees the second ever NZ Coffee in Good Spirits Throwdown and we're excited that our very own Joe Wishnowsky, from Mojo Beanery in Wellington, has his shaker ready to compete! The concept is pretty simple, a fun, fast-paced, knockout style throwdown, where competitors have to produce cocktails that have a minimum of 30ml of coffee in them. We caught up with Joe in advance of the event and...
Installing a Coffee Roaster on Tanna Island, Vanuatu
Mojo Coffee has been buying coffee from Tanna Island, Vanuatu, for five years; it's a small coffee growing region which is incredibly important to us. We see relationships, mutual support and quality coffee development as some of the many benefits in trading with our close neighbour. Mojo has been sourcing raw green coffee from Talao Coffee, a co-operative run in conjunction with local NGO, Nasi Tuan, since 2016. In 2019, Andrew Findlay from Tearfund NZ reached out to Mojo to see if we could do more to help. The plan was to set up Tana Island's first roasting plant and tourist retail post for Talao...
Kaicycle Trial: Compostable Cups to Community Garden
Just before the holidays, the Mojo team and Innocent Packaging visited the Kaicycle community farm to learn more about how our compostable cups were being turned into compost. When we arrived, the sun was beating down and the warm smell of compost filled the air. The garden and compost facility is located on Hospital Road in Newtown, which seemed to be an unusual spot until Kate from Kaicycle explained that the garden’s location is critical for its success being so accessible to the community. The central location requires less transport to access, which is crucial for Kaicycle, considering they collect compost by...
